A new guide funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), “Designing Consumer Health IT: A Guide for Developers and Systems Designers,” identifies successful design methods for development of consumer health information technology (IT) products. The Guide includes:
- General guidance for designers and design teams that can be applied to the process of designing and developing a product.
- Specific recommendations on each phase of the design process, such as idea generation, identification of end users, product testing, and commercialization .
- Results of an environmental scan and grey literature review.
- Expert interviews on how to improve consumer health IT design in order to increase its effective use.
